Last week we drove our motorhome down to Mexico to meet up with my aunt and uncle (my mom’s sister) and my parents.  We left on Friday night and drove to St George. Saturday we drove to Hoover dam and then met up with my parents in Quartzite, AZ. Quartzite is so cool. It is the middle of the desert and we stayed the night out on some BLM land. The ground is very flat and graveled. It almost looks like someone graded and graveled it. The most amazing thing was the number of stars you could see and how quiet it got at night.  The next day we made our way to the border and crossed into mexico.  Sunday night is when everyone else is heading back to the states for work on Monday. The lines to get out of the border were incredible. They say they can last hours and hours. Being mexico instead of one line, they formed three lines on the 3 lane road. So there was half a lane and then the shoulder to travel into mexico. This went on for several miles. When it got too narrow for us we ended up driving in the wide ditch for about a mile. It was scary and luckily we all made it.  We arrived at the rv park after dark, set up camp and went to bed.  The park is right on the beach. I mean the sandy beach was only 15 feet from our motorhome. Almost everyone on the beach, except for the vendors are from the states. So it didn’t feel too much like being in a foreign country. We went fishing one day for about 4 hours. We caught a ton of fish and had a sea lion swimming around the boat for part of the morning. Tons of pelicans flying around as well. We ate a lot of shrimp and of course junk food. We went snorkeling and saw small stingrays and tons of fish. The return trip wasn’t bad except for the winds that tried to blow us off the road from Vegas to St. George. At one point a gust threw us into a rumble strip for about 10 seconds and it was all I could do to keep it from pushing us into the ditch. We pulled over and took a nap to wait for the wind to die down.  The worst part of coming home was getting out for gas in St George to 50 degree weather after being in 75-85 degrees all week. And then coming home and seeing patches of white stuff on the ground. All in all it was a great trip and we’ve made reservations to do it again next year.
